On Tuesday, India approved a $250 million Line of Credit to facilitate the modernization of agriculture in Kenya. Prime Minister Modi, announcing the initiative, highlighted the collaboration on joint military exercises and counter-terrorism projects between the two nations. President William Samoei Ruto welcomed Indian initiatives, describing the Indian community in Kenya as a "bridge" and emphasizing the special bond between the countries. The Line of Credit, aimed at agricultural modernization, will support projects in areas such as equipment, technology, and cultivation. Both nations agreed to enhance bilateral agricultural cooperation, contributing to increased trade and food security in Kenya.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi expressed India's willingness to share experience in developing Digital Public Infrastructure with Kenya. Kenya also expressed interest in joining the International Solar Alliance and Global Biofuels Alliance. President Ruto acknowledged the historical contributions of the Indian community to Kenya's growth and emphasized the strong relationship between the two countries.
The Line of Credit will be used to advance subsequent agricultural projects, with Kenya offering land to Indian companies for crop cultivation. The collaboration encompasses various sectors, including cyber security, anti-money laundering, small arms, light weapons, drugs, and human trafficking. Both leaders directed the bilateral Joint Defence Coordination Committee to convene promptly.
President Ruto recognized the bridge-building role of the Indian community, stating that Kenya is now the first home for Indians, who were granted Kenyan citizenship in 2017. The leaders discussed the case of two missing Indians, expressing concern and indicating that India is actively tracking the situation.
