Nairobi, Kenya, December 5 – President William Ruto announces plans for an extended collaboration between Kenya and India, particularly in the field of technology and other sectors.
During his state visit to New Delhi, India, from December 4 to 6, President Ruto received a ceremonial welcome. The purpose of the visit is to strengthen the bilateral ties between India and Kenya, with a particular focus on expanding collaboration in technology and various sectors, including health.
The expanded partnership is expected to enable Kenya to benefit significantly from India's global leadership in technology, leveraging its capacity and experience. President Ruto highlighted agreements between the countries' dairy boards in areas such as vaccine manufacturing, genetics, and agricultural product development.
In the agriculture sector, collaboration between the Kenya Dairy Board and the National Dairy Development Board of India is set to address challenges related to vaccines, genetics, and agricultural product manufacturing. Furthermore, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development of India will work with Kenya’s Agricultural Finance Corporation to provide credit to farmers, particularly in addressing food security challenges.
President Ruto emphasized the importance of the health sector, acknowledging that many Kenyans seek health services in India. He pledged to enhance the relationship between healthcare professionals from both countries by reducing bureaucracy. Efforts are underway to ease entry for Kenyan professionals to India for short courses.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreement, especially in technology and public digital infrastructure, will be leveraged to digitize and modernize Kenya's health space through E-health, telemedicine, and telehealth.
President Ruto expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for considering the allocation of $215 million to support Kenya in agricultural mechanization, vaccines, and other interventions. India's support in marine space research and documentation will contribute to Kenya's marine and blue economy exploitation.
Both leaders acknowledged the mutual concern of terrorism and committed to collaboration between their defense forces to share information, experience, knowledge, and intelligence. They also agreed to work together to address security challenges in East Africa, including Sudan, DRC Congo, and Somalia.
President Ruto informed the Prime Minister that Kenya has joined the alliance of biofuels and solar alliance, emphasizing the country's commitment to green manufacturing and industrialization. He concluded by requesting the consideration of establishing a chancery and residence for the Ambassador of Kenya to New Delhi.
